Hi, my name Sydney Love Wilson! I am a trained full spectrum doula, certified childbirth educator, social worker and parent preparation specialist..
Prior to birth work my professional background consists of youth development, community organizing, advocacy, parent education and reproductive health work. I received my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Howard University and my BSW from Arizona State University.
My passion for birth work was sparked shortly after giving birth to my daughter and experiencing first-hand how powerful and impactful a strong support system, preparation and education can be for the birthing experience. My lifelong passion for youth work collided with my love for birth work allowing my focus to seamlessly shift from comprehensive sexual health education to also include reproductive health and birth justice.
I became a doula to help families, have a sacred, radiating, and liberating birth experience. My goal is to help birthing parents reclaim an experience that is rightfully theirs through empowerment, education, and support during the prenatal, labor, birth, and postnatal periods. My work focuses primarily on support Black families and families of color, but all families are welcomed with love.
I advocate, build awareness, and demand change for the Black Birthing Crisis. Through this work, I have the pleasure to serve as part of the following organizations:
-
DC DHCF Maternal Health Advisory Group
-
Association of Black Social Workers
-
National Black Doula Association
I have serviced families from the DC Metro Area to Phoenix, AZ. and accept clients virtually anywhere in the U.S.
I look forward to walking along side you for this incredible journey.
Talk soon,
Doula Syd
